Memory or RAM (Random Access Memory) isn’t just a highly functional part of any computer setup, but without it, your PC/laptop/device just simply wouldn’t be able to operate. Over the years, many companies have thrown their hat into the arena offering many different variations since the days of the original DDR memory. Now that we are in the age of DDR4, the competition is fierce and pricing is as at its most critical peak. One such company that is renowned in the memory sector is G.Skill; a Taipei-based giant that has been established since 1989. More recently they have moved some of their focus over to the peripheral market (check out our review of the G.Skill KM780 RGB Keyboard here); this hasn’t slowed down their memory division at all. Today we will be taking a kit from one of their top memory ranges, the G.Skill Trident Z. Today’s particular sample features a relatively high clock speed of 3200MHz with very tight timings of CL14. This makes this particular kit of memory particularly suitable for overclocking and high-performance applications. The packaging isn’t exactly anything out of the ordinary, but it does feature implemented Z to highlight which memory range this kit comes from; Trident Z of course! Looking at the actual modules themselves, this kit features 2 x DDR4 modules which equal to 16GB or 2 x 8GB modules depending on how you look at it (means the exact same thing really). This means that this kit is supported for dual channel platforms such as Intel’s Z170 platform and would be the perfect companion to the Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Skylake processors. The G.Skill Trident Z range features large and tall heat sinks (44mm or 1.73”); these have a nice gun metal grey coloured finish which looks very sleek and premium.

Perhaps best known, now, for their array of PC components (most notably memory and SSDs), Team Group's portfolio actually expands to USB drives, SD/Micro SD cards, mobile peripherals (such as hubs), high quality cabling, and even enterprise orientated storage/memory. That's quite a range (and it goes further). Today, then, we have some RGB memory to be looking at. Unlike bringing RGB to SSD's (something, I believe, that Team Group can claim to be 'the first' on), RGB on DRAM has been a thing for a while, will likely use RGB memory. In fact, Krzysztof even said that RGB was basically becoming standard on DDR4 modules nowadays, and I'm highly inclined to agree. Team T-Force Delta TUF Gaming 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 product today is actually a collab between Team and Asus, and those who've been around for... well, any length of time, will immediately recognise Asus' well known 'TUF' branding on both of these products. I have never quite been able to work out Asus' TUF range, as it sits very separate from their top stack products, and even their 'ROG' line. TUF is a line all on its own, and is often easy to pick out. Built 'heavy', with an emphasis on rugged looks. Team T-Force Delta TUF Gaming 8GB 3200MHz DDR4 range actually goes as far down as DDR4 2400, which - for current Intel and AMD platforms - is below the JDEC specification, which sits at DDR4 2933Mhz for both chip makers. What we have here lies at the top of Team's product stack, coming in at a CAS latency of 16 (more specifically, 16-18-18-38). I already have my theories, therefore, on what DDR4 chips this kit of memory uses, but I will reserve any pre-judgement or speculation for now.
